Lost Valley Trail & Hawksbill Crag

This was the very first trail our family hiked on our family vacation to Ponca, Arkansas. While hiking in, I was a little dissappointed at how easy the hike was, but that disapppointment soon faded away as the treasures found at the end of this trail came into view. I might have to place it in my top 10 places to visit in Arkansas. This short 2.3 miler is a jewel with the valley itself, bluffs, waterfalls, a cave, and a waterfall that falls into the cave at the very end. Turn off the headlamps and you'll experience what pitch black really looks like. It was a great start to the week. At lunchtime we came back to the cabin for a sandwhich and headed out to Hawksbill Crag. Included in this hike was a trip to Haley Falls. All in all, this 3 miler is easy and views are nothing short of spectacular. The hike back out at the end of the day was a little tough and left the family, myself included, winded. Of course, I was playing catch up after walking to the bottom of Haley Falls for some pics. A word of caution, while the hike to the Crag is easy, the danger is very real. People have lost their lives at this spot. Always be careful when you "Hit the Trail!"
